Ideas to help students understand what they can do to help.
Students have been hearing all this news about budget cuts and losing their electives, but they don't know what to do. Should they talk to their teacher, or maybe their principal, or their elected officials. There are no resources to hlp guide students and help them understand how they can help. I know as a student I had no idea what to do. The idea hit my sister and I that starting a petition would get the attention of the legislature, but with this already going around what can another student who wants to help do?
You could get the petition going around at your school.
Our petition is trying to get around the state but there isn't much we can't do much with just a few school districts joining in. What we need is a group of dedicated students who want to make a difference and would be willing to pass the petition around their school or have their friends sign it online.
You could attend your local school board meetings (especially if they are about budget cuts) and speak up.
Your school board isn't going to know how much students really care unless they show it. Currently my sister and I are planning on attending our school board meeting on Wednesday February 24 to address our concerns about the budget cuts.
Come up with your own ideas.
Students around the state should care about this issue and coming up with your own unique idea on how to help offset the budget is exactly what is needed. There are many ways to let the legislature know about your feelings and what you believe they can do to solve the problem.
We really hope that these ideas will inspire some assistance from other students around the state. If you have any questions or would like to help us please email us at savemischool@gmail.com.
